PANAMA CITY, Panama – The Canadian trio of Roger Sloan, Ryan Yip and Adam Svensson all finished inside the top 10 on Sunday at Web.com Tour’s Panama Championship.

Sloan, from Merritt B.C., paced the Canadians with a final-round 66 to climb into sole possession of 4th place at 4-under par for the tournament. The finish marks his first top-10 finish early into the 2018 season (he collected four in 2017).

FAR HILLS, N.J. (Aug. 2, 2017) – The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced tee times for the first two rounds of the 117th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, Monday, Aug. 7 and Tuesday, Aug. 8 at the 6,423-yard, par-72 San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif.

The U.S. Women’s Amateur consists of 18 holes of stroke play on Aug. 7 and 18 holes of stroke play on Aug. 8, after which the field will be reduced to the low 64 scorers. There will then be six rounds of match play, starting Wednesday, Aug. 9. The championship is scheduled to conclude with a 36-hole final on Sunday, Aug. 13.

The Web.com Tour prepares to host its final stage of qualifying this week from Dec. 8-11 in Winter Garden, Fla., where 10 Canadians including three from British Columbia will compete for 2017 playing status.

The Canadian contingent will battle against 150-plus athletes in the 72-hole stroke play event, with players finishing inside the Top-45 (plus ties) earning guaranteed starts for the beginning of the 2017 campaign.

DuPont, Wash. – The Home Course in DuPont, Wash. is set to host the most talented male amateur golfers in the Pacific Northwest and beyond on July 9-14 at the 117th Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur Championship, conducted by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA).

This is the second time The Home Course has hosted this championship, having previously been the venue in 2009. The championship begins with 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying held on July 9-10, followed by a cut to the low 64 players who will advance to single-elimination match play.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2015 NAIA Women’s Golf All-America teams, as selected by the NAIA-Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-America Committee.

A total of 30 student-athletes were honored, with 15 individuals being named to the first and second team. The UBC Thunderbirds Women's team had 3 players named along with one honourable mention.

VICTORIA, BC (April 5, 2017) - Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship Tournament Organizers announced today that tickets are now officially available for purchase for the PGA TOUR Champions event.

An exciting addition to the current ticket offerings is the new travel ticket package - a joint initiative from Pacific Coastal Airlines and the Tournament to make the Event more accessible to fans from the mainland.

Tiger Woods’ 2021 season is on hold after he announced that he underwent a microdiscectomy procedure on his back to remove a pressurized disc fragment that was pinching a nerve.

He is expected to be sidelined through at least the first two-plus months of the year and will miss both the Farmers Insurance Open and the Genesis Invitational, where he doubles as tournament host.

TOKYO – The Tokyo Olympics will open next year in the same time slot scheduled for this year’s games. Tokyo organizers said Monday the opening ceremony will take place on July 23, 2021 – almost exactly one year after the games were due to start this year.

“The schedule for the games is key to preparing for the games,” Tokyo organizing committee president Yoshiro Mori said. “This will only accelerate our progress.”

Last week, the IOC and Japanese organizers postponed the Olympics until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. This year’s games were scheduled to open on July 24 and close on Aug. 9. But the near exact one-year delay will see the rescheduled closing ceremony on Aug. 8.

The sun was shining, but when the wind picked up, it blew up the scores of the six Canadian girls playing in the World Junior Girls Championship at The Marshes in suburban Ottawa.

The best Canadian scores came from Vancouver’s Tiffany Kong and Coquitlam’s Euna Han, who each carded (+3) scores of 75. Kong is on Team Canada 1 and her teammates Hannah Lee of Surrey, at (+5) 77 and Grace St-Germain of Orleans, ON, at (+6) 78, were also undone by the winds, which blew entirely differently than during their practice rounds on Sunday and Monday.

BOSTON, May 24, 2018 – The Legends Tour has announced its 30-player tournament field for next month’s inaugural event at the Suquamish Clearwater Legends Cup presented by Boeing. The event is set for June 8-10, at the White Horse Golf Club in Kingston, WA.

The tournament will feature LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame members JoAnne Carner, Pat Bradley, Betsy King and Hollis Stacy, as well as numerous former LPGA tournament winners, including past champions of the former Safeco Classic.

“It was always my favuorite time of the season on the LPGA Tour when we played in the Pacific Northwest,” said Nancy Scranton, winner of the last Legends Tour tournament staged in Washington in 2013, outside Kirkland. “I won my first LPGA tournament in Vancouver, so I have very fond memories of the area.

“I’m not good enough to keep track of my handicap.” Craig Loughry, Golf Canada’s Director of Handicap and Course Rating, is tired of hearing that.

“The purpose of the Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling players of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis,” the Golf Canada Handicap Manual states.

“If you’re playing golf regularly, you’re keeping track of your scores in some fashion,” he points out. “You’re golfing for a reason or reasons, whether it’s for the competition against yourself or others, recreation, socializing, whatever. It obviously is a significant part of your activity schedule, so why not keep track on an ongoing basis?

At a conference for the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA) in early November at Amelia Island, Fla., Barb Trammell was named the new president of the IAGA. She will serve a one-year term.

An industry veteran with over 30 years’ experience in the golf business, Barb has served as CEO of the Oregon Golf Association since November 2007, a position she will continue to serve.

The IAGA is made up of golf administrators from state, regional, provincial and national golf associations, and serves as a means of exchanging information, techniques and communication among the world’s golf organizations.

VICTORIA, BC (April 18, 2017) - The Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship announced today the winner of the Event’s 2017 Trophy Design Contest. Tournament Organizers received many amazing submissions, making it a difficult choice to narrow down the designs to three finalists.

Following the initial finalists selection, the trophy design contest was opened to the public to decide on the winner based on the majority of fan votes. After voting closed on April 12, it was determined that Patrick Belanger of Vancouver Island was the winner.

Coquitlam's A.J. Ewart was joined by Surrey's Khan Lee as the two qualifiers at a 36-hole U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying event held at the RMG Club at The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway, Washington on June 21st.

Ewart had to overcome a severe case of jet-lag having just returned from the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup at the Chukyo Golf Club Ishino Course in Japan where he posted a 3-under par score for the 72 hole event finishing in 19th spot competing against the best junior golfers in the world.

Lee also had some overcoming to do as he opened the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier with a 79 but bounced back nicely with a round of even par 72.
