Mickey Wright At The Top Of Her Backswing - YouTube Image

The golf world lost a legend recently with the passing of Mickey Wright, a 13-time major champion and winner of 82 LPGA Tour events. Wright passed away in Florida on Monday, February 17th at the the age of 85.

Many, including the great Ben Hogan, have said that Mickey Wright may have had the best swing of any golfer - man or woman - the game has ever seen. Her powerful swing was especially impressive during the era she was so dominant.

Here's a video from a televised match against Brigitte Varangot broadcast in 1964 that demonstrates a technique she used to develop the power in her wonderful golf swing. The tip is shared with us at the 3:36 mark of this video, in a chat with Gene Sarazen, a legendary player himself, immediately after Wright had hit a tee shot 310 yards. In 1964. With a persimmon wood.

  • Video: We've Heard Of Being A Long Driver...But This Is Ridiculous

Golf Trick Shot artist and 3-time Guiness Book of World Records holder, Karsten Maas, is at it again. Maas, who has been a golf professional for 30 years is mainly known as a trick shot artist and hits some amazing shots with unusual (to say the least) golf clubs.

One of his staples is hitting a ball with clubs measuring further in shaft length than some of us hit the ball itself.

Already the holder of the record for hitting a shot with 'The Longest Useable Club' Mass recently 'added' to his mark by swinging, connecting with a ball, and hitting it over 90 yards... using a driver that measured nearly 37 1/2 feet in length.

World record video for the third World Record from Karsten Maas. The longest usable golf club, 11,40 meters  (37.4 ft) ...  hit 83,3 meters...(273.294 ft or 91.098 yds)

  • Video: Lefty The 'Bushwhacker'

Phil Mickelson is a 5-time Major winner and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. And that's just for what he does when he keeps his ball in the same time zone as the golf course he's playing.

Actually, he's a lot more fun when he's trying to get his ball back into the vicinity from whence he started.

His recovery shots easily match and often outdistance - both literally and figuratively - his regular highlights. For our most recent exhibit we present Phil hitting his ball from out of a bush... somewhere off to the side of the 9th hole it appears (see Shot Tracker screenshot below) in the recent Shriners Open.

Suffice to say there were no TV cameras set up to capture this shot. Probably not too many hit from this particular area. But thanks to today's social media there was of course a fan with a phone handy.

Oh, and Lefty will hit this shot for you using his driver. Over trees. Approximately 200 yards.

    And make par

    You're welcome.

  • Video: Flagstick. Friend or Foe?

We hear a lot of different opinions on the 'flagstick in or out' option these days. Though that has mainly to do with the new rules allowing you to putt on the greens with the flag still in the hole while unattended.

After watching some of these PGA TOUR guys ring the ball off the flagpole you might think they'd have preferred to have it out. From as much as 100 yards.

  • Video: SCGA Rules Crew - Rule 18.2a 'Time For Search'

Anyone who's potentially lost a golf ball would like enough time to find it. The rules used to allow 5 minutes to search for a lost ball.

Which doesn't seem like a long time...unless you're in the group behind the ones searching for the ball.

Effective this year the amount of time allotted to search for a lost ball has changed. In this video the SCGA Rules Crew explains the new rules regarding time for search outlined in Rule 18.2a

  • Video: Young Tommy Morrissey Shows How Golf Is A Game For Everyone - Including A One-Armed Six-Year Old

Tommy Morrissey was born with only one arm. That, however, has not stopped him from playing sports and playing them well.

Morrissey, who has already achieved a degree of national fame in his native USA through his appearance at PGA TOUR events like the Shriner's Classic, also plays baseball and has hit his share of home runs for his team.

This particular video is from the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando in 2017 when Morrissey was six years old, but young Tommy has continued to prove he not only belongs on the playing field with other 'able-bodied' youngsters, but that he can excel as well. And he has dreams and aspirations like most kids, including wanting to be a golf pro. Oh, and play in the NFL. And drive in NASCAR.

Here, we see him being interviewed by Matt Fisher of AmateurGolf.com and taking him on in a target challenge at the show's driving range.

  • Video: Tiger & Bryson Debate Distance vs Straight For The New Bridgestone e12 Golf Ball

In the ongoing evolution of the 'new Tiger'...we present the latest commercial he's a part of with golf's acknowledged techno-guru, Bryson DeChambeau, as they debate which is more important, Distance or Straight?

We're impressed with Tiger's more personable demeanor at this stage of his career. Obviously there's direction involved but full credit should go to Tiger for his buy-in and exection in front of the camera.

Both of them do a nice job of playing their role and make it a very entertaining ad.

  • Video: Tony Romo From Off The Deck Of The Hospitality Tent

During the last few months ex-Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has made an even bigger name for himself with some of his uncanny play predictions during NFL TV broadcasts. Many fans are aware that Romo is also an extremely fine golfer, sporting a +0.3 handicap.

Romo may have added to his recent upgrade in notoriety by hitting a shot Seve would have been proud of in the 2nd round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at the par-4 15th hole.

Not to be totally outdone, listen as commentator and 6-time Major Champion Sir Nick Faldo almost calls the shot before Romo executes it.
