There’s nothing quite like putting your head down on your own pillow after a long day’s work, and that’s exactly what Jim Rutledge will get to experience next month when he competes in the PGA tour Champions Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship.

The star studded tournament will run from September 23rd-25th at Victoria’s Bear Mountain Golf Resort. As a professional Rutledge has never left a stone unturned competing for many years on the Canadian, Web.com, Asian, European, and PGA TOUR. But he knows there is nothing like being back at home.

CALGARY – Golf Canada in partnership with Canadian Pacific (CP) has announced the field of competitors set to challenge for the 2016 CP Women’s Open taking place August 22–28.

The 156 player field competing at Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club will feature the entire top 10, 46 of the top 50 and 96 of the top 100 on the LPGA Tour’s Official Money List. The field also includes 34 Olympians, fresh off their experience in Rio, where women are competing in Olympic golf competition for the first time ever.

The International Golf Federation this morning announced the draw for the first and second rounds of the women’s golf competition at Rio 2016 when a field of 60 competitors will be seeking to follow in the footsteps of Margaret Abbott of the United States, who won the gold medal in Paris in 1900.

CALGARY (Golf Canada) – Golf Canada and Canadian Pacific (CP) are pleased to announce the names of 14 players who have received exemptions into the 2016 CP Women’s Open taking place August 22–28 at Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club.

Calgary natives Jaclyn Lee and Jennifer Ha will have a home crowd advantage as they compete at the 44th playing of Canada’s National Women’s Open Championship. Three British Columbia-based players are included in the exemptions handed out.

GATINEAU, Que. – The 112th playing of the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship concluded under beaming sunshine and stifling heat. Hugo Bernard battled through the sweltering conditions to shoot 5-under 65 for a come-from-behind victory at The Royal Ottawa Golf Club. 

Stuart Macdonald of Vancouver and Richmond, BC's Chris Crisologo finished 3rd and 4th alone, respectively.

Bernard – a member of Golf Canada’s National Amateur Team – began the day knotted in third, three shots behind leader Blair Bursey. Bernard carded a 65 – one short of the tournament’s low round that he posted on the second day – to secure the win.

The 2016 Canadian Amputee and Disabled National Open (CADNO) is coming to Surrey, BC at the Northview Golf & Country Club from August 22-25, 2016.

The CADNO is sanctioned by the Canadian Amputee Golf Association (CAGA) and is a National Open Championship for Amputee and Disabled golfers, with participation of international players.

A Board of Directors, consisting of representation from various parts of Canada, operates the Association for the benefit of all amputees. CAGA’s priorities are to encourage more amputees to get involved with sport and recreation as part of their rehabilitation and future success going forward in life.

A bogey on the final hole Sunday cost Merritt’s Roger Sloan a spot in a playoff at the Web.com Tour’s Digital Ally Open in Kansas.

Sloan just missed a five-foot putt for par on the 18th hole that would have put him in a playoff with Americans Wesley Bryan, J.T. Poston and Grayson Murray. Instead, he ended up in a five-way tie for fourth place.

Mary Parsons Finishes Third As B.C. Places Seven Players In Top 11

It hasn’t been a great summer in British Columbia, but don’t try telling that to Naomi Ko. She has been so much better than the weather. The 18-year-old Victoria resident’s super summer continued Friday in Shubenacadie, N.S., where she  won the Canadian Junior Girls Championship. 

Ko birdied three of her first five holes en route to a even-par 72 at The Links at Penn Hills and finished the 72-hole event at five-under par. That was good for a four-shot win over Chloe Currie of Mississauga, Ont.

GATINEAU, Que. – History abounds at the 112th playing of the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship. A number of significant milestones surround this year’s edition of the world’s third oldest amateur golf competition to be co-hosted by The Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Que., and Eagle Creek Golf Club in Dunrobin, Ont., from August 8-11.

The championship returns to The Royal Ottawa Golf Club – the inaugural tournament’s host venue – in celebration of the club’s 125th year. Eagle Creek will co-host this historic competition as part of its festivities surrounding its 25th anniversary. The 2016 Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship will also mark the first time the event has been staged in two provinces.

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Any memories of inclement weather during the 2016 Canadian Junior Boys Championship were all but forgotten thanks to clear skies and brilliant sunshine during the final round at Clovelly. Sam Meek took advantage of the conditions to earn a come-from-behind victory and claim the national junior title.

With the victory, Meek becomes the prestigious championship’s 78th winner. The history of the competition and the significance of the victory were not lost upon the champion.

“This win means the world,” said the native of Peterborough, Ont. “This is what I’ve strived to accomplish my entire junior golf career. To have my name on the same trophy as some of those winners is incredible. This is the top of junior golf in Canada, so just to be a part of that is an amazing feeling.”

Strong Field Continues To Build For September Event On PGA TOUR Champions

(August 2, 2016) – World Golf Hall of Fame members Sandy Lyle and Tom Kite, along with 1991 Masters Tournament winner Ian Woosnam, have committed to play the 2016 Pacific Links Championship. The event will be contested on Bear Mountain Golf Resort’s Mountain Course in Victoria, British Columbia the week of September 19-25, 2016, featuring a US$2.5 million purse, with 81 players competing for a winner’s share of $440,000.

Nolan Thoroughgood literally travelled from sea-to-shining sea to compete in his first national championship. The 15-year-old from Victoria, who last month became the youngest winner in the 114-year history of the B.C. Amateur Championship, is in St. John’s, Nfld., to compete at this week’s Canadian Junior Boys’ Championship.

Thoroughgood, who also won gold at the recent B.C. Summer Games in Abbotsford, will also compete in next week’s Canadian Amateur Championship in Ottawa. He knows these two events will be a stern test.

NEW MINAS, N.S. – Overcast skies hung heavy over Ken-Wo Golf Club as the final round of the 2016 Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship drew to a close. Hye-jin Choi of Paju-si, Korea shot a final round 66 to claim a four-stroke victory.

The reigning World Junior Girls champion recorded three birdies on the front nine, including two back-to-back on holes 8 and 9 for a 2-under 33. A bogey-free back nine complemented by two additional birdies on holes 11 and 13 brought Choi’s tournament total to 9-under 271.

The 16-year-old is No. 14 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking and was recently crowned the low amateur at the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open at CordeValle in San Martin, Calif.

Jared du Toit’s performance at the RBC Canadian Open vaulted him 35 spots in the world rankings to a career-high No. 25 in the world. It was only his second career professional tournament and the University of Arizona senior finished two shots ahead of World No. 1 Jason Day and just two back of former teammate and former top-ranked amateur Jon Rahm. Du Toit captured the Gary Cowan Medal as Low Amateur as a result of his finish

Garrett Rank, a former top-ranked amateur in Canada, gained 13 places in the world rankings after finishing in a tie for 77th at the RBC Canadian Open.

Andrew Harrison moved back into the Top-20 with a 32-place gain in the world rankings. He is coming off a third-place finish at the Alberta Amateur.

Jared du Toit’s spectacular play at last week’s RBC Canadian Open has propelled the Kimberley resident up the world amateur golf rankings. The latest ranking released this week has du Toit at No. 25 in the world. He had been ranked 60th last week.

The 21-year-old finished tied for ninth at the Canadian Open, which he was playing on a sponsor’s exemption. He shot rounds of 67, 71, 70 and 71 to finish the event at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ont., at nine-under par. That was three shots behind winner Jhonattan Vegas of Venezuela.

After he opened with a wonderful 5-under 67 to start the RBC Canadian Open, more than a few golf fans were turning to one another and asking, "Who's Jared du Toit?"

Well, they know now. 

The 22-year old amateur from Kimberley, B.C., who begins his senior year at Arizona State this fall, is very well known to those who follow amateur golf closely in the Pacific Northwest, having won the B.C. Junior Boys title in 2013, the B.C. Amateur in 2015 and adding the 2015 NCAA Big Sky Conference Championship title.

OAKVILLE, Ont. – Brandt Snedeker conquered the dense heat and gusty winds at Glen Abby Golf Club Saturday to card a 6-under 66 and take the lead at the RBC Canadian Open. Heading into the final round, Golf Canada National Amateur Squad member Jared du Toit holds a share of second with Dustin Johnson, one shot off the lead at the 107th playing of Canada’s National Open Championship.

Du Toit tallied three bogeys and a pair of birdies across the front nine, but the resilient 21-year-old went on to finish bogey-free across his final nine holes, collecting a birdie on No. 13 and an eagle on No. 18. The crowd roared in approval and an impromptu performance of O Canada accompanied the Kimberley, B.C., native as he stepped off the course.

Kimberley BC's 21-year old Jared du Toit went into the weekend at the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey GC just one shot back of leader Dustin Johnson. Chances are if you'd said a Canadian would be this close to the top of the leaderboard in his national open it would likely be an Adam Hadwin, Nick Taylor or Graham DeLaet.

Even du Toit himself is at least a little surprised but as he said after his second round, “I didn’t have a lot of expectations coming in. To kind of vault up the leaderboard kind of caught me a bit off guard. But everything from now on is just cream on top.”

PACIFIC COAST GOLF ASSOCIATION (Seattle, Wash)- The 50th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship, hosted by the Washington State and Pacific Northwest golf associations, will take place at historic Seattle Golf Club from July 26-29, 2016.

Founded in 1900 with a 1996 redesign by Arnold Palmer, Seattle Golf Club has a history well deserving of hosting the Pacific Coast Amateur's 50th installment, including the 1952 U.S. Amateur, 1961 Walker Cup, 1981 U.S. Senior Amateur and three Pacific Coast Amateurs (1967, 1987, 1999).

A world-class roster of amateur competitors will be taking part in the 72-hole, four-day stroke play competition in the hopes of raising the Dr. Ed Updegraff Trophy as champion. Without a defending champion, following Aaron Wise's departure to the professional ranks, the trophy and accolades coupled with victory are up for grabs.

Top-ranked Jared du Toit picked up 10 spots in the world rankings to sit at a career-best 57th in the world. The Golf Canada National Team member is coming off a win at the Glencoe Invitational. He became the first player from the host club, The Glencoe Golf & Country Club, to win the tournament since 1995.
