    RICHMOND, BC (PGA of British Columbia) –- The PGA of BC regrets to share the news that Sean Richardson (The Harvest Golf Club) passed away Sunday at the age of 52.

    One of the most accomplished coaches and instructors among the ranks of PGA of BC Professionals, Richardson had battled cancer for several years prior to his passing. He spent the entirety of his impressive career based at golf facilities in British Columbia.

  • Put Your Team Together For The RBC PGA Scramble

    The RBC PGA Scramble is a national series of events taking place at more than 140 golf facilities around the country in 2021, culminating with Regional Finals and the RBC PGA Scramble National Championship in October.

    The series of events expects to draw more than ten thousand amateur golfers—who will form their own team of four players— from across the country. Teams will look to make it through local qualifying with the ultimate goal of playing in a Regional and hopefully National Championship in October with a PGA of Canada professional playing on their team at some of Canada’s finest golf courses.

  • Golf Canada Will Tee It Up For 2021 National Amateur Championships

    Golf Canada will tee it up in 2021 to conduct national amateur championships and is working with public health authorities in host communities to finalize operational protocols so that the competitions may proceed safely. 

    Following a 2020 season that saw the cancellation of all Golf Canada competitions due to the pandemic, the 2021 schedule will feature nine National Amateur Championships, eight NextGen Championships for junior-aged golfers, and several USGA qualifiers which will be hosted at member clubs across Canada, starting with the NextGen Pacific Championship at Bear Mountain G&CC in Victoria, BC on May 5th.

  • 2021 RBC Canadian Open Cancelled Due To Ongoing COVID-19 Challenges

    PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLORIDA AND TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA – Due to logistical challenges related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the PGA TOUR, title sponsor Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and Golf Canada announced today that the 2021 RBC Canadian Open, scheduled for June 7-13 at St. George’s Golf & Country Club in Etobicoke, Ontario, has been cancelled.

    “Even with an extensive health and safety plan in place, we faced a number of significant logistical challenges that led us to this decision,” said PGA TOUR President Tyler Dennis. “While we are disappointed to cancel Canada’s National Championship, we are thankful to our partners RBC and Golf Canada – along with our Canadian fans — for their unwavering support and cooperation throughout this process. We look forward to the RBC Canadian Open returning to our schedule next year.”

  • Golf Canada Annual Meeting Concludes With Liz Hoffman Elected As 116th President

    (March 4, 2021 - Golf Canada) – Golf Canada’s 2021 Annual Meeting culminated on Thursday, March 4th with the election of Thornhill, Ont. native Liz Hoffman as the 116th President of the National Sport Federation.

    Hoffman, a past President of Golf Ontario who spent 39 years with the University of Toronto including 16 as Director of Athletics and High-Performance, succeeds Charlie Beaulieu of Lorraine, Que. who served consecutive terms as President in 2019-20.

    British Columbia Golf will be using Golf Genius for the foreseeable future starting in 2021.

  • The R&A And The USGA Modernize Amateur Status Rules

    22 February 2021, St Andrews, Scotland and Liberty Corner, N.J., USA: The R&A and the USGA have announced proposals for significant changes to the Rules of Amateur Status that govern the game worldwide.

    These proposals result from a modernisation initiative that has identified a clear need to bring the Rules up to date to reflect today’s global amateur game and ensure that the Rules are easier to understand and apply.

    The proposed Rules, along with explanations to key changes, have been posted on www.RandA.org and www.usga.org and the organisations are now inviting feedback from golfers and stakeholders. Comments will be accepted until Friday, 26 March 2021 with the new Rules scheduled to be adopted on 1 January 2022.

  • Air Quality National Guidelines For Outdoor Sporting Activities Survey

    Regulatory and Strategic Affairs Center (RASAC) has been contracted by Health Canada to gather input for a guideline to use for outdoor sporting activities during adverse air quality events. 

    With golf obviously being a major outdoor sporting activity, British Columbia Golf is offering to distribute the survey through its various media channels in the hope that responses from the golf community will assist in creating the guideline sought for the health and wellbeing of not only golfers but any and all individuals who partake in outdoor sporting activities.
